Introduction of Dany VANDROMME

 

Dany Vandromme has been a University Professor since 1988 at INSA of Rouen. He created the Computational Fluid Dynamics laboratory, one of the components of CORIA, UMR 6614 of CNRS. His research field was the numerical modelling applied to supersonic and reactive flows, with a special focus on turbulence aspects.

Responsible of the regional network SYRHANO (Upper-Normandy) from its origin in 1993 until July 2006, and founder and chairman of the Upper Normandy computing center (CRIHAN) from 1992 till 2006, Dany Vandromme is an early expert user of ARPANET and later INTERNET since the early 80s as a post-doc and later research associate at NASA Ames Research Center from 1980 to 1990.

He has been scientific advisor at the directorate for Engineering sciences at CNRS from 1993 to 1998, with a special attention for networking and computing issues.

He has been General Manager of RENATER, the French Research and Education Network (NREN) from 1st July 1998 to 30th June 2011.

As RENATER leader, Dany Vandromme worked on the evolutions of public Internet in France, for technology and financing aspects as well, to cope with the specific requirements of the Research and Education community.

Dany Vandromme did represent RENATER into the consortium of European NRENs, in charge of teh GEANT network (www.geant.net). From January 2001 to December 2006, he was member of the Board of DANTE TE (www.dante.org.uk), of which he was the chairman from January 2003 to December 2004.

He has been one of the two French Delegate of France in the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) (April 2002 - November 2010).

Dany Vandromme was awarded “Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite” in 2002. From November 2006 to Novembre 2010, he joined the General Directorate for Research and Innovation at the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research, where he was in charge of Research Infrastructures. .

In 2011, he founded a consulting company for infrastructure strategy (PANACHE CONSEIL SAS).

In September 2013, he returned to INSA in Rouen as Professor.

From September 2015, he joined the HCERES (www.hceres.fr), the organisation, in charge of the evaluation of research and higher education, as scientific delegate.

From September 1st, 2017, he switched his position to become Emeritus Professor at INSA in Rouen.
